The IT director of WARPOINT, Grigory Isakov, at the game development forum stressed the importance of commercial virtual reality (VR).
At the international developer festival PLAYPORT FEST 2024 Grigory took part in a discussion on immersive technologies titled "Immersive Technologies: How Far Are We from the First Player to Get Ready." Together with Isakov were Maxim Kozlov, Head of the Metaverse Technology Center at Sber, Ivan Tkachev, Executive Director of Sber's Gamification Lab, and Alex Brizha, Founder of MOCAP TRIC. The discussion was moderated by Nikolai Klyachin, CEO of Joybox and Curator of ScreamSchool, a game development school.
Grigory Isakov emphasized the key role of commercial application of VR technologies in their future mass adoption. In his opinion, modern mobile processors capabilities already allow creating high-quality VR content, but the main factor of immersion is free movement, not graphics. He noted that mass adoption of household VR may take another decade, while commercial products like WARPOINT VR parks allow users to immerse in virtual worlds despite existing restrictions.
The power of mobile processors has begun to allow playing good content in VR, with the main effect being not the picture or graphics, but rather free movement of the feet. We see that the transition to "First Player to Get Ready" will come through a commercial product and the technology will reach consumers in at least 10 years. The problem isn't that people need VR glasses, it's that we need to ensure they can't be removed, said the IT Director of WARPOINT.
PLAYPORT FEST 2024 was held in Svetlogorsk and brought together leading Russian gaming industry representatives, becoming an important platform for sharing experience and finding new ideas for developers and players alike.
